Taranaki Harmony Chorus

About Us

We are a dynamic group of women from all areas of Taranaki, who love to sing and entertain in 4 voice part a cappella harmony - in the barbershop style. Our group is affiliated to Sweet Adelines International, a world wide organisation of over 30,000 members.

Whether it is the joy of singing, the music education, the time to do something for ourselves, or the lifelong friendships formed, there is no doubt the Taranaki Harmony Chorus is an extraordinary outlet for women.

Musical Director:

Gill Holmes

Gill attended the very first recruitment workshop for new members in 1995 having recently arrived in New Plymouth with husband and young baby. She was looking for an interest for herself where she could meet other women and was hooked after hearing the quartet Copyrite perform. She has been a passionate member ever since and was appointed Musical Director in 2000. In this role, Gill continues to inspire, encourage and enable the group to sing in unity and harmony.

Team Coordinator:

Fy Tait

Fy was inspired to join THC when, as a cardio-respiratory physiotherapist, she witnessed the impact of the beautiful 4 part a cappella singing on a ventilated patient in ICU. She is an enthusiastic proponent of the health benefits of singing, has led the chorus administration team with vision and flair since 2010 and was a New Zealand Spirit of Sweet Adeline award nominee in 2013.
